Exhibit 1.2: Curricular changes after analyzing learning data
Title of Exhibit
Assessment-Driven Curricular Decisions
Domain Outcome #(1.0)
Candidates are proficient in curriculum development and implementation; knowledge of curriculum and subject matter is used to create positive change in classrooms, schools, and districts.
M.Ed. Domain Indicator #(1.2)
The candidate identifies barriers, and then makes appropriate curricular changes after analyzing and evaluating P-12 student development and learning data, using the latest available technology.
Rationale
I demonstrate proficiency in identifying barriers and making appropriate curricular changes by analyzing ITBS and 6-Traits scores by using current technology to create new curricular approaches in overcoming barriers to learning, specifically in the area of writing (conventions). Hirsch (2007) describes the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and comparable tests as proven methods for measuring achievement. As such, the ITBS and other standardized measures are valuable tools in making curricular decisions.
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
Although the new lessons have not yet been implemented for this area of improvement, analysis of test scores has enabled me to much more sharply focus my planning for individual students. I can still maintain a unified approach for the class in terms of essential questions, general content, etc, but I have identified areas in my teaching that need improvement, as well as the particular needs of specific students.
How verified
Jim Multra, 8th Grade Humanities instructor, verified this exhibit.
