Exhibit 1.7: Professional growth and development of content standards

Title of Exhibit
Exhibit 1.7 Professional Growth Plan
Domain Outcome #(1.0)
Candidates are proficient in curriculum development and implementation; knowledge of curriculum and subject matter is used to create positive change in classrooms, schools, and districts.
M.Ed. Domain Indicator #(1.7)
The candidate demonstrates a continually developing, strong knowledge base of developmentally appropriate content standards.
Rationale
This exhibit demonstrates my proficiency in planning professional growth in mastering state and NBPTS content and developmental standards. During the EDU 565 workshop, I created a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) based on NBPTS standards, and incorporated Morrison Academy curriculum standards into that plan. The development and implementation of the PGP shows expertise in and substantiation of state and NBPTS standards. As Wiles and Bondi (2007) point out, decisions affecting curriculum development have a significant impact on the educational program itself.
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
Development of the PGP provided me with an effective road map for achieving curriculum objectives and professional development guidance for the implementation of the unit. I discovered areas of standards-based approaches upon which I need to sharpen my focus.
How verified
Dr. Decker, the professor for EDU 565, can verify the authenticity of the artifacts.
