Exhibit 2.d: Affective and cognitive developmentally appropriate opportunities
Title of Exhibit
Providing Appropriate Learning Opportunities for a Developmentally Diverse Classroom
Domain Outcome #(2.0)
Candidates are proficient in the knowledge, dispositions, and skills needed for effective teaching; effective teaching results in successful student learning.
M.Ed. Domain Indicator #(2.d)
The candidate creates and modifies learning opportunities, both affective and cognitive, by implementing instruction that demonstrates developmentally appropriate practices that draw from characteristics of specific cultural groups in this country.
Rationale
I demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge, dispositions, and skills needed for effective teaching by creating and modifying learning opportunities, both affective and cognitive, and incorporating differentiated learning plans for ELL students into the 9th Grade Research Project. This implementation also demonstrates developmentally appropriate practices that draw from characteristics of specific cultural groups in the country. “Although it requires attention, skill, and commitment to its use, differentiated instruction is a practical and attainable method of facilitating learning and academic growth in all students” (A Teacher’s Guide, 2007, p.4).
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
The ELL students in my classroom have responded well to differentiated learning exercises and assessments, though I do not always use them. One student in particular has had significant ELL issues, and the differentiated/modified materials in this exhibit reflect a design that is specific to his needs, but could be used for many different students.
How verified
This exhibit was observed by Cathleen Lin, ELL Coordinator at Morrison Academy Kaohsiung.
