Exhibit 5.d: Collaboration with and respect for diversity
Title of Exhibit
Collaboration with School Families for Cultural Diversity
Domain Outcome #(5.0)
Candidates create professional partnerships to create learning opportunities for themselves and their students.
M.Ed. Domain Indicator #(5.d)
The candidate collaborates with and respects the diversity of individuals, families, groups, and the community when designing P-12 learning environments that address multicultural perspectives within the context of the global community.
Rationale
I demonstrate proficiency in creating professional partnerships to create learning opportunities through collaboration with stakeholders in the form of newsletters, informational documents on school expectations that I made more easily available by transcribing to .pdf format for download from the school website, and a parent survey to solicit input on learning opportunities. Sanders (2008) describes schools as places that can help bring together different parts of the community, especially families and administrators, to help improve student learning.
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
I know through parent comments that parents rely on our school newsletter for important information about school events and other news. Parents also appreciate information about how I run my classroom, academic expectations, and the like. I find that it helps build relationships with parents when they have a clearer picture of school life.
